Confession: I sort of love it. Sort of. There's so much excitement and renewal in the whole process. Of course this is followed by the awful low of living in a new place and not quite being able to get into the flow for a while. But love it or hate it, for a lot of us it is a reality. Corporate relocation has become a way of life for many middle class Americans. Few of our parents knew of relocation packages, mortgage buyouts, moving allowanes, and spousal employment assistance. But here we are. And our kids, little corporate brats, whose toys are wrapped up by professional packers every three years.
Right now I'm in pre-pre-move mode. I'm getting organized, cleaning out closets and drawers, and making decisions about what goes and what stays. And strange as it may seem, at the same time I'm mentally and physically preparing for a move that may or may not materialize, I'm also getting my house just the way I want it. It's like I need it to be "done" before I leave.

On the other hand, I dream of setting foot in a place and knowing it's for good. Or at least for a very long time.

We moved a lot when I was a kid. Even though I dislike moving as an adult I still get the urge to pack my boxes and go someplace fresh and new sometimes.
